For the sake of your skin, no matter how tired you may be, taking off your makeup is a must. Letting it sit on your skin overnight will clog your pores, dry out your skin and possibly cause acne. You don’t need to buy high-end makeup removal products, or even drugstore ones, to get the job done. For they’re packed with harsh chemicals that can irritate your skin more than help it. It’s always best to use the purest products both on your skin. If you’re interested in learning how to naturally remove your makeup, then here are five ways you can try.

Hot Steam

Fill your sink with hot water and lean over it for a minute or two. While it won’t take off a full face of makeup, the steam emitted from the hot water will remove trace amounts of leftover makeup from your skin. The heat and moisture will open up your pores, unclogging them to remove dirt and other impurities.

Cucumbers

Specifically the juice of a cucumber. As it’s used in a lot of makeup removers on the market, why not save some money and make a cucumber based remover yourself? Blend one up into a paste, add your preferred oil and you’ve got yourself a cleanser. Keep it refrigerated after each use to keep it as fresh as possible. Cucumber is great for soothing inflamed or acne-prone skin.

Coconut Oil

A few drops of coconut oil is all you need to remove even the most stubborn makeup products. Waterproof mascara? No problem! Coconut oil is packed with antimicrobials that allow it to provide excellent moisture to your entire body. You can apply a quarter-sized amount in your hands or onto a cotton pad before gently rubbing it into your skin to remove all your makeup.

Milk

The fats and proteins in milk do wonders for hydrating your skin, allowing the moisture from the milk to sink in and stay there. This not only freshens up your complexion, but milk does a great job of removing tough makeup. Apply it directly to your face before wiping it off with a cotton pad, or whatever method you prefer. If you’re dealing with annoying eye makeup, tip a cotton pad into milk and concentrate it over your eye area.

Honey + Baking Soda

The natural combination of honey and baking soda creates an effective cleanser and exfoliator to remove every speck of makeup on your skin. As with all skin treatments, be gentle when rubbing the mixture over your skin before washing it off with lukewarm water. And you don’t need much of either! Use a quarter size amount of honey along with a sprinkle of baking soda. If you want a more intense exfoliant experience, add more baking soda until you get your desired texture.
